What People are Saying
“Jerry has a unique skill set from fire suppression, prevention, fire investigations, and preparedness. Jerry’s knowledge and understanding of the built environment, development, fire service and building codes and ordinances, leads to a comprehensive body of knowledge to help move wildfire mitigation best practices forward. As a nationally recognized SME he is highly regarded, well versed in the subject, and is dedicated to reducing losses from wildfire.”
— Jill Welle, Douglas County (CO)
“What set Jerry apart was his ability to tailor complex topics to the varied needs of the group. Whether addressing technical mitigation strategies or discussing broader fire science and policy topics, Jerry ensured each attendee left with actionable insights relevant to their work. He was well prepared, and the combination of visuals, field assessments, and thoughtfully organized materials created an effective learning experience.”
— Tucker Teutsch, Firebrand Resiliency Collective (OR)
“The structure assessment class taught by Jerry McAdams at MC Fire, LLC was a huge benefit to our department. Our fuel mitigation specialists were able to learn more about conducting structure assessments and how to provide consistent feedback to homeowners. We also had representatives from other fire departments across Utah attend. With this training, we can all collaboratively decrease wildfire risk across our state.”
— Jeanie Atherton, Provo Fire Department (UT)
MC Fire, LLC provided our members with invaluable training over two-days at our Annual Spring Forum in June of 2025. Jerry McAdams led the instruction and it exceeded expectations on every level. The material was highly informative, engaging, and directly relevant to anyone working with or around structures in wildfire-prone areas. What stood out was how applicable the content was to all types of buildings—residential, commercial, and beyond.
— Pennsylvania Association of Code Officials (PA)
Jerry clearly enjoys his classes and shares his enthusiasm through the material. The clear focus on the human element, considering the perspective of and messaging to the homeowner, resonated deeply.
Jerry does a fantastic job, and I would take this same course again! 10/10
— Don B. and Kimmy S., Park City (UT)

Choose your course…
We have options for you. This course can be either taken as a 1-day on-demand training completed at your own pace, or as a 2-day in-person or live virtual (Zoom) training. The course helps you create fire adapted communities by correctly and efficiently identifying ignition vulnerabilities from wildfire to structures and their immediate surroundings in the built environment.
This course covers the topics of…
fire science, fire ecology, and the history of wildfire
causes and consequences of wildfire
general societal misperceptions of wildfire
effects of fire on the built environment
planning tools and code development
defensible space and survivable space
plant selection, placement, and maintenance
use of building materials for structure hardening
specific structural attributes and vulnerabilities
new construction and retrofits for existing construction
methodology for evaluating structures
how to motivate and inspire people to action
Students will walk away with the ability to…
quickly and effectively evaluate hazards and exposures to structures
prepare detailed recommendations to motivate owners to take mitigation actions on properties in wildfire-prone areas
Information applied from this course will help reduce the incidence of structure loss during wildfire events. This is a perfect course for building code and fire code officials, firefighters, arborists, engineers, new Defensible Space Inspectors (DSIs), landscape designers, architects, builders and developers, policymakers, realtors, insurance industry, and homeowners.
The International Code Council (ICC) has approved this course for 1.2 CEUs in the specialty area of Fire. Our compressed 1-day version has been approved for 0.6 CEUs.

NFPA ASSESSING STRUCTURE IGNITION POTENTIAL (ASIP)
NFPA AUTHORIZED TRAINING PROVIDER
MC Fire, LLC is proud to be a part of the NFPA Authorized Education Network (AEN). As an Authorized Training Provider, MC Fire, LLC will work directly with you to plan, organize, and instruct the popular 2-Day NFPA Assessing Structure Ignition Potential from Wildfire (ASIP) course.
Get one-of-a-kind training that prepares you to identify wildland fire risks to structures and confidently recommend effective safety measures to property owners. This interactive, redesigned NFPA Assessing Structure Ignition Potential from Wildfire Training is based on fire science research into how homes and other structures ignite during wildfires and covers wildfire behavior, structure exposure, and the concept of the Home Ignition Zone. You’ll learn how to analyze wildfire risks to structures and provide actionable advice to property owners through an activity-rich curriculum. In a learning environment that encourages discussion and interaction, sessions are taught by wildland fire specialists who understand how and why homes and communities are destroyed during wildfire events and the simple things that residents can do to minimize property loss.
Course content covers the ability to:
Identify how wildland-urban (WU) fire disasters occur.
Determine how homes can ignite related to the Home Ignition Zone (HIZ).
Identify factors that increase home ignition potential within the HIZ.
Assess an existing home’s ignition potential.
Recommend mitigations for reducing a home’s ignition potential.
Recommended Audience:
Anyone with an interest in mitigating losses within the wildland-urban interface, such as members of the fire service, landscape architects, property managers, public educators, and those in the insurance industry, including risk analysis professionals.
